Farm House and Cottage

Relax while enjoying the natural surrounds of the Kalahari in a remote and private area on the farm 60 km east of Askham. Spacious house set up in the heart of the Green Kalahari. Open plan kitchen/dining room/sitting room and large wrap-around verandah. Ideal place to relax with family and friends. Peaceful and very private with spectacular views of the Kalahari. Great veldt walks from the house or cottage. No lights and no traffic.

The farms purpose is mostly for breeding programs of Bonsmara Cattle, Sable Antelope, Roan Antelope and Black Impala however naturally occurring wildlife such as Springbok, Oryx Antelope, Steen buck, Duiker, Aardvark, Porcupine, Tortoise and a variety of bird, roam freely across the farms.

We invite you to stay in our luxury, self-catering farmstead or cottage, where we guarantee you a comfortable and restful stay, friendly service and warm Kalahari hospitality.

Livestock

You might see the Bonsmara cattle breed while you stay on the farm. They were chosen for our breeding program due to the breeds hardiness and well natured characteristics.

Tsama Wild & Pure Game Breeders

Companies like Tsama Wild and Pure Game Breeders make use of Drumsheugh to breed pure game breeds.They are housed and cared for on Drumsheugh.

Guest Access

Take walks through the veldt, climb the red dunes or enjoy viewing a range of antelope present around the house. Guided drives through the rest of the farm are possible with prior arrangement.

Pool Area & Events

Enjoy sun downers on the pool deck overlooking a game waterhole. Location and design of the house creates a perfect place for special events, family reunions or intimate weddings.

Both properties are rented out on a full self-catering basis. All food stuff, beverages and bottled water must be purchase before arrival. Askham and Van Zylsrus are the closest towns, but supplies are limited, and business hours restricted. Entrance to and accommodation on this farm is subject to strict terms & conditions.
Welcome coffee, tea and milk is supply, but we encourage you to have your own.

Room Amenities

Linen and towels are supplied, but a limited supply of Shampoo, bath soap and toilet paper are available.

Kitchen Supplies

Kitchens are fully equipped with efficient cutlery and crockery, glasses and basic utensils. Cleaning materials are also supplied complimentary over and above the daily cleaning services.

A limited amount of fire wood is supplied daily, additional bundles can be purchased

A Balanced Eco System

A variety of grasses are found, with an abundance of Bushman and Gha grass, favoured by the Cattle and Roan. Shrubs in the form of Black thorn, Velvet Raisin and Candle thorn are found widely dispersed, together with the trees Camel Thorn, Shepherd and Grey Camel Thorn, favoured by the Sable. The upgrade and re-development of the farms was specifically planned to optimise veldt usage while at the same time maintaining a balanced eco system.

NO REFUND WILL BE GIVEN FOR ANY BOOKING CANCELLED WITHIN 14 DAYS OF CHECK IN. 

 

Important Information

The Farmstead is supplied with Eskom electricity and water from the Kalahari pipeline scheme. Cellular signal is present but other than Vodacom, not always very reliable.

The Farmstead is rented as an exclusive, private self-catering unit and is situated 70 km from Askham on the R31 towards Van Zylsrus, which is a gravel road, the 5km road from the main gate to the Farmstead is thick sand and requires a vehicle with 4×4 driving capabilities.

House Rules
  • Please ensure all doors and windows are closed when leaving the cottages/homestead.
  • Due to all the farm animals we can unfortunately not allow any pets.
  • No smoking inside the cottages/homestead.
  • All visitors do so at their own risk and the owners cannot be held responsible for any incident / accident / injury / damage / loss /theft of possessions and/ or vehicles.
  • House Rules Suitable for children (2-12 years) Suitable for infants (under 2 years) All children under the age of 16 must always be supervised by an adult
  • Noise levels are to be kept to the minimum
  • A signed indemnity & valid id will be requested on arrival
  • Collection of firewood and making of any fires outside the dedicated areas is strictly prohibited.
  • Guests must please have taken measures to ensure that they are well informed and equipped in the event of a medical or any other type of emergency.
  • Arrival times are to be strictly before 19h00.

Drumsheugh is an ideal stopover en-route to or from the Kgalagadi Park. On your way look out for these worth while attractions.

Kgalagadi Park

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is a vast wildlife preserve in the Kalahari Desert region of Botswana and South Africa, bordering Namibia to the west. It’s characterized by red dunes and dry rivers. Wildlife includes migrating herds of wildebeest and springbok, plus predators like raptors and black-maned Kalahari lions. Various lodges and wildnerness camps offer game-viewing drives and guided walks with park rangers.

Orange River Wines
The full range of Orange River Wines are available for tasting and sales. The menu contains a vast verity of locally sourced produce and always offers an interesting variety of options. The winery have some of the best wines in the Northern Cape.
Augrabies Falls
The Augrabies Falls is a waterfall on the Orange River, South Africa, within the Augrabies Falls National Park. The falls are around 183 feet (56 m) in height. Some sources cite an approximate height of 480 feet; this is actually the height from the base of the canyon to the top of the walls, not that of the falls themselves.
